MariaElaina Sumas. MD is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.  Dr. Sumas  graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C.  She started her Neurosurgery training at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, VA, and completed her residency training at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  She recently returnedto Temple University Hospital where she completed a Spine Fellowship.

 
Dr. Sumas started her clinical practice in 1997 as Assistant Professor and the Director of Trauma Neurosurgery at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.  She specializes in neurosurgical evaluation and treatment disorders of the  brain, spine, and peripheral nerves.  Services that Dr. Sumas provides include complex spinal surgery of the neck (cervical), mid (thoracic) and lower back (lumbar) spine, treatment of spinal fractures and tumors, and peripheral nerve surgery such as carpal tunnel syndrome.  She also treats patients with brain disorders including head injuries, aneurysms, vascular malformations, Post Concussive Syndrome, Hydrocephalus, and tumors.
